Your Local Community

Connecting to others in your local community is a great way to explore Australia and Australian culture.

There are many different cultural groups and religious centres that can make you feel welcome.

Local Council

All Adelaide metropolitan council websites are listed on the Local Government Association.

The SA Council provides information about your local council, including website links and an outline of the services available in your community.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved in your local community and meet new people. For more information visit the International Student Support office or visit the following websites:

For comprehensive information about what is considered 'volunteer' work for the purpose of your student visa, see the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's website.

Maintaining Cultural Links

If you are interested in learning or teaching another language, there are 48 languages taught by the Ethnic Schools Association of SA

There are many different community groups in South Australia through which you can connect to your home culture. See the SAcommunity website for a list of all community groups.

There are also various national clubs at the University - see the Adelaide University Union site for more information.
