Talking With Aussies

A volunteer program designed to help international students improve their English conversation skills

Many international students would like to keep improving their English in order to feel more confident communicating with Aussies. This program helps you do that. It links individual students with volunteers from the local community. Our volunteers come from a range of ages and backgrounds, including students, retirees, and working professionals. The students and volunteers in the program meet regularly one-to-one to chat informally and help develop the student’s English skills.

The Volunteer Program currently has about 170 trained volunteers who work with international students. Volunteers are linked with one or more students, who then arrange informal meetings to suit their individual needs and time availability. Our volunteers are men and women from all walks of life, from those who are actively engaged in work or study but spend some lunchtimes with their students, to retirees with a broader range of time options.
