Country: Canada
Course: Bachelor of Laws – Graduate Entry
Faculty: The Professions

I reached a turning point in my life when I realized I wanted a bigger challenge and to help people. Somebody told me to write down on a piece of paper everything I wanted to do, and see what aligns with my skills. The first thing I wrote down was “lawyer”. It was a perfect fit for me because I would have the opportunity to utilize my research, negotiating and relationship building skills.

Moving to Adelaide from Toronto, Canada, was a challenge. Initially I had a hard time settling into my new life here because I had never lived away from home, and I was leaving my wonderful family and friends behind. Once I found accommodations and a part-time job, I developed a routine and started to enjoy my time here.

The faculty and students at the school are very friendly and were helpful in my transition. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in competitions such as debating and mooting to develop my advocacy and public speaking skills. It’s very stimulating to be surrounded by such brilliant individuals. I know I’ve made some life-long friends here.

I love how welcoming the faculty and other students have been to me. Everybody has been incredibly patient as I’ve adjusted to moving to a new city and starting school again. I feel like I’ve made some lifelong friends.

Why did you choose your degree?
Before coming to the University of Adelaide, my educational and career background was in business marketing. I reached a turning point in my life when I decided I wanted a bigger challenge and to help people. Somebody told me to write down on a piece of paper everything I wanted to do, and see what aligns with my skills. The first thing I wrote down was “lawyer”. It was a perfect fit for me because I would have the opportunity to utilize my research, negotiating and relationship building skills.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Adelaide?
The primary reason I chose the University of Adelaide is because it was ranked very well internationally. I also knew I didn’t want to go to a big city like Melbourne or Sydney where the cost of living would be higher. It seemed like a perfect fit for me.

What do you enjoy about your degree/time at uni?
I love how welcoming the faculty and other students have been to me. Everybody has been incredibly patient as I’ve adjusted to moving to a new city and starting school again. I feel like I’ve made some lifelong friends.

What do you hope to do in the future once you are qualified?
I hope that once I finish my degree, I will return to Canada to practice. While my passion is employment law, I’m keeping an open mind.
