Why did you choose the University of Adelaide?
"After deciding that I was going to study in Adelaide, the University of Adelaide was a sensible choice for someone who wishes to do a music course. It is the only University in South Australia that has a conservatorium. Of course, the facilities and teaching qualities are main factors to choosing University of Adelaide too."
Why did you choose to study in Adelaide?
"After doing Year 12 in Malaysia, I wanted to come to Australia and was looking for somewhere conducive for a student. Based on some research, Adelaide was known to be 'quiet' and conducive for students; therefore, I chose to study in Adelaide. The lower living expense, compared to other major Australian cities, also played a part in my choice."
What do you like best about the University of Adelaide?
"Its music library is among the biggest in the southern hemisphere, which allows access to many resources for various musical subjects and interests. The people around the University, including fellow students, lecturers, administrative staff, are very kind and helpful."

What do you like best about your course?
"I have very supportive lecturers in my course since my undergraduate studies. I completed my Bachelor of Music Studies (Honours) here. Since the first year, the courses are designed to develop my skills in relevant fields – performance, aural, ensemble, musicology, history, and theory. These skills have undoubtedly contributed to my current PhD study in Ethnomusicology."
Has any one lecturer really inspired you? Why?
"Yes – Associate Professor Kimi Coaldrake. She taught me in some musicology courses in my undergraduate studies and is now my principal supervisor. Her dedication and sensitivity towards her students are inspiring and encouraging."
What is the best thing about the campus you study on?
"It is conveniently located in the heart of Adelaide and transportation is easy. The co-existence of both the historical and new buildings create a very interesting sight. The campus provides sufficient facilities (study rooms, student computers, practice rooms, concert rooms, cafeteria, gym, etc) to encourage a healthy student lifestyle."
What is the best thing about living in Adelaide?
"I have met some very nice people here and they made me feel at home. The mad-March is probably one of my favourite time in Adelaide when the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Clipsal are on around the same time."
What do you do when you're not studying?
"I practise! Well, other than activities related to my study, I like to go to the Botanic Gardens to have a picnic on a nice day. I also enjoy going on day trip to the Barossa Valley, Victor Harbor, Hahndorf, Second Valley etc. I am currently taking tango lessons, and used to do ballroom dancing lessons too."
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
"I wish to be a lecturer. I am currently teaching casually (mainly in Musicology courses) at the Elder Conservatorium."
How is study in Australia different to studying in your home country?
"Quite different. I find that there is more flexibility and different approaches to learning here in Australia. Rather than being spoon-fed, students have to get their hands dirty to find answers, which I have truly enjoyed doing."
