Hello! I am a third year petroleum engineering student from Singapore. I became a peer mentor as I wanted to give back the awesome help and support that I have received as an international student. I want to help new arrivals to the wonderful city of Adelaide settle in, get their bearings and enjoy their time here in Adelaide just as I have for the last 2 years. University life is great however, there are many challenges ahead and I want to be able to help guide new students. My hobbies are driving, learning new languages and going on road trips to explore Australia. I hope to see around campus!
Hello, everyone! My name is Akshay Mokal (Aki) and I am studying Masters of Civil and Environmental Engineering. I like to meet people from different countries and cultural background. I love to eat and try food from various countries also watching anime’s, drawing, traveling and many more things. I Joined ISS peer mentor program to meet the people from various countries and help them to solve their problems which will help them to get settled in the uni life. I think Peer Mentors play an important role for international students, because I received many helps from the Peer Mentors when I arrived Adelaide. I am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) in my third year. I joined the ISC Peer Support program to be able to facilitate a great transition for new international students such as yourselves into university life, which I have personally experienced when I was a freshman myself! I can be seen hanging out normally in the Barr Smith Lawns (photosynthesising by sleeping under the sun) or anywhere in university actually, so don’t be afraid to say hi! I am interested in social events and meeting new people. Adelaide is a great place to explore and certainly has its charm incomparable to many other cities in the world and I hope you will be able to experience this fully and create your own Adelaide Experience!

Hi Everyone! I am currently studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Corporate Finance) degree. I like to play badminton, table tennis, hiking, travelling and food. I joined the ISC Peer Support Program to meet new people, embrace the cultures of other countries and most importantly help international students settle into Adelaide and university life. Hello everyone! I am Chloe, a student studying on master degree of accounting and finance. I had exchange experience in France, and love watching movies, traveling, cooking, and recently I am into boxing. Also I enjoy making new friends from different cultural backgrounds. As an international student, I know how hard to overcome language barriers and cultural shock, when you start your life in a totally new environment. Luckily I got lots of helps from Peer Mentors on my orientation week, so now I hope I can make more students feel welcomed and help them adapt to the life in Adelaide. There are many wonderful activities held in Uni, and I am here waiting for you to explore new things together.
I’m currently studying a double degree of Bachelor Health Science and Law, and 2017 will be my fifth year at the University of Adelaide. My interests includes and are not limited to: reading and writing, advocacy, volunteering and playing a verity of sports (especially foosball). Joining the ISC Peer Support program has been an extraordinary experience that has provided me with opportunities to develop my interpersonal skill... Importantly, with every new student or Mentor that I’ve come into contact with, I have been able to learn about their cultural background and how the personally approach their studies and life… Some of the most memorable experiences I’ve come to cherish as a Peer Mentor have been meeting new students, campus tours, trip to wildlife park/Victor Harbor and LCE events and many more.

Hi! I’m studying Psychology with a Major in Gender Studies. Between the great coffee and wine, the plentiful markets and festivals, and beautiful beaches I am very happy to call Adelaide home. I have enjoyed the positive experiences associated with living overseas but I have also encountered the challenges of cultural shock, language barriers and homesickness. Hi! My name is Fabian and I am in my last year of my chemical engineering and science double degree (I am also studying a diploma in languages, majoring in Mandarin). I became an ISS Peer Mentor because I want to help international students transition to university life in a different country which I know can be challenging as I have been an international student before. While it was an incredibly eye-opening and positive experience, it came with its own unique challenges. Welcome, everyone! I am a 4th year undergraduate student studying a double degree in Science (Chemistry Double Major) and Arts (Linguistics Major). Before becoming a Peer Mentor, I attended many events held by the ISS in 2014 and found it to be a very rewarding experience - meeting many of my closest friends in university there. This encouraged me to become a part of the program and I have since been a mentor, aiming to help new international students enjoy their time in Adelaide! Since I came to Australia, I have been actively participating in volunteering, either a long-term commitment at Royal Adelaide Hospital or various different kinds of activities going on. Hello, I am an international student from Malaysia currently pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) as a third-year student. I very keen to get involved in different events, experimenting various cuisines with the recipes available online, making coffees and reading. I joined the Peer Support Program at the ISC because I have received a lot of help from the program. More importantly, I have got to know friends from different countries through the LCE program which is held every fortnightly. I’m currently doing a bachelor degree in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering. My hobbies are swimming, studying Organic Chemistry, and learning languages (German, French and Norwegian) for socialising purposes as well as understanding cultures from all corners of the world. The main reason as to my participation is for the opportunity to interact with international along with interstate students and help them through with the first few weeks in a different geographical and cultural setting of Adelaide.
