Why did you choose your degree?

I was always intrigued by architecture and wanted to pursue a creative career in the future, therefore this degree got me really interested!

Why did you choose the University of Adelaide?

The University of Adelaide has one of the most renowned schools of Architecture, and I was offered a scholarship.

What are you enjoying most about your degree?

I especially enjoy the level of creativity I am able to put in my assignments; we have plenty of freedom to execute crazy ideas when doing design work in classes.

How have you adjusted to online learning?

I did my first year on campus and it was an amazing time that I cherish.  Despite all the inconvenience, the online courses were not disappointing at all. In fact, it surprisingly went well for me! I had extra support from tutors whenever I needed it, although I could have the resources I wanted, I had enough to conduct my study. It’s a responsible University that provides practical and creative courses, I feel so fulfilled and interested when I learn. And I didn’t have to worry about anything other than study because the school considers everything ahead of me, they are very responsible.

What support services have you accessed – were they helpful?

Everyone was very supportive in every aspect during the pandemic. I feel relieved when I realised that the faculties were so thoughtful about all aspects, not only with academic issues, but they also cared a lot about our mental and physical states.

I believe everyone’s positive attitude towards online learning was helpful and essential to making this work. All the tutors were very supportive and responsible, especially when the online courses started; I sensed extra attention from my tutors and course coordinators compared to the first year when I had face to face tutorials.Sharon You

What advice would you give to other international students starting their studies online?

I would recommend getting all the VPN connections set up for your devices that are needed in your study, as communication is key during online studies. Getting notifications on time and being able to contact your tutors and faculty is very important to your future studies.

What are you most looking forward to when you return to Adelaide?

Access to the Hub and all the facilities in person is something that I miss a lot! As well as the Uni café, I keep thinking about the chai latte they make!

How do you think a degree from The University of Adelaide will assist your future career?

I was able to conduct an internship during my semester break virtually, and I found my courses were really helpful. I was able to take part in actual projects that will be built and I was capable to do the work, considering that I was only doing the degree for 2 years, the courses were very practical!

What is your job role now/ if not, what are your plans for the future?

I am still a student and I plan to become an actual architect and have the ability to lead an architectural design project in the future.
