Your guide to English language tests

As English is the language of instruction at the University of Adelaide, we require all of our students to be proficient in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. An English test may also be required as part of the student visa application.

Accepted English Tests

If English is not a students first language, the University will require them to undertake an English test within the two years preceding the date of commencement.

The University's preferred accredited English language tests are set out below:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - Academic Test
  • TOEFL - internet-based and paper-based
  • Pearson Test of English - Academic
  • CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced).

In light of the considerable impact COVID-19 has had on the ability to access training centres in some countries, the University has allowed alternative English language tests to be accepted for admission to all coursework entry intakes for the remainder of 2021.
