The Biochemistry department here is great! The lecturers and tutors are friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help us understand difficult concepts.

Studying at the University of Adelaide has been the right decision for Isabel. “Adelaide is culturally diverse and this means you get to sample cuisine from all around the world! There’s also plenty of festivals throughout the year so there’s always something to do on the weekend!” As well as Adelaide’s vibrant and busy social life, Isabel loves the look of the campus with the mixture of old and new buildings.

Isabel enjoys the practical nature of studying Science at the University of Adelaide and she felt warmly welcomed by the Biochemistry department. “The Biochemistry department here is great! The lecturers and tutors are friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help us understand difficult concepts.”

Isabel notes that the freedom of choosing your own timetable allows for her to study and fit in extracurricular activities. During her free time, Isabel volunteers as a Peer Mentor at the International Student Centre as part of the Language and Cultural Exchange program. And as if she wasn’t busy enough Isabel also volunteers with the St. John’s Circle of Friends program, helping isolated members of communities with volunteers who share the same interests and goals!

Currently, Isabel is working at the University of Adelaide’s Waite campus on the ‘Flying Doctors’ project. ‘Flying Doctors’ involves seeing if bees can deliver a biological control agent to fruit in order to control grey mould. In the future, Isabel hopes to work in the field of plant biotechnology.
