Internal Transfer (Change of Program)

If you are a current international student who wishes to change to a different undergraduate or postgraduate degree program, or wants to apply for entry to a postgraduate degree directly after completing your undergraduate degree, then you will need to submit an internal transfer application.

Before you lodge an application for internal transfer

  • Please note that applying for leave of studies or dropping your enrolments may affect your eligiblity to apply for a change of program as an “internal transfer student”.  
  • If you decide to go on leave, you must return to your current program when you recommence your studies. Please visit the International Student Support for more information.
  • If you are planning to take a leave of absence but wish to change your program, before you finalize your leave of absence or drop your enrolments, please contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au. Note that you may need to apply for the new program via SATAC, and a reassessment of your English language may be required.
  • If you are a current student who has been affected by the COVID19 travel restrictions and were unable to re-enrol, please contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au to discuss your eligibility to apply for internal transfer.
  • A change in program may result in changes to the duration of studies. Please speak to a Student Advisor prior to applying for an internal transfer.
  • Note that some programs require students to be onshore to study.

    • Application period opens: COB Friday, 23 September 2022

    TEACHING CAPABILITIES STATEMENT (TCS):

    If you are applying for the Teaching programs, note that you are required to submit your Teaching Capabilities Statement to the Faculty no later than 5PM, Wednesday 08 February 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted. Applications for Teaching programs will not be assessed without the TCS, and will be withdrawn.     NOTE:

    • The application closing dates for international students may differ from domestic students.
    • Application closing dates apply for internal transfer/change of program applications lodged both via the ITR online application portal, and via SATAC (for programs only available via SATAC).
    • Once internal transfer application periods close, applications via SATAC will continue to be open for new students only.
    • Please do not lodge internal transfer/change of program applications via SATAC, once the ITR application period has closed. You may contact International Admissions to be considered for late applications.
    • If you are an Alumni who still wishes to lodge a late application for a new program, please contact us directly at start@adelaide.edu.au and address your correspondence to “International Admissions”.
  • Important application information

    Please do not re-lodge your application while you wait for your application outcome. Re-applications create multiple applications, and may cause delays in assessment.

    International students may not study concurrent programs, and must only lodge one preference for transfer programs.

    Please do not lodge applications for multiple preferences. If you lodge applications for several different programs, all previous applications will be withdrawn and only the latest application lodged will be processed.

    • Offers for Semester 1, 2023 will be made on a rolling basis from November onwards.
    • If Semester 2, 2022, and/or Trimester 3, 2022, and/or Summer School 2023 results are not required to finalise assessment on your application, you may receive unconditional offers.
    • If results from these enrolments are needed to finalise assessment, you may receive conditional offers. Once you meet these conditions, simply accept your offer; you will not be issued revised unconditional offers. You may only receive revised offers if changes occur toward your credits and/or program duration.
    • Offers for Trimester 1, 2023 will be made on a rolling basis from November onwards.
    • If Semester 2, 2022, and/or Trimester 3, 2022 results are not required to finalise assessment on your application, you may receive unconditional offers.
    • If results from these enrolments are needed to finalise assessment, you may receive conditional offers. Once you meet these conditions, simply accept your offer; you will not be issued revised unconditional offers. You may only receive revised offers if changes occur toward your credits and/or program duration.
  • Alumni Applicants

    Alumni applicants only

    Late applications: If the application period has closed, and you are:  

    • Completing (or still completing) and graduating from your current degree at the end of Semester 2, 2022 or Summer School, or Trimester 3, 2022; and
    • Wish to lodge an application for your new program commencing in Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023

    Please contact the relevant Academic or Student Success Team in the first instance. Late applications may be considered on a case by case basis only, subject to approval.

    In addition, please also contact International Admissions directly at start@adelaide.edu.au to advise of your late application request. Please address your correspondence to “International Admissions”.

  • Internal transfer - deferrals

    • Internal transfer offers for Semester 2, 2022 and Trimester 3, 2022 are not deferrable. Each student’s circumstances may vary, so if you do not wish to accept your offer, you may advise us through start@adelaide.edu.au.  On the other hand, if you have accepted, but are unable to commence in the specified intake, and instead would like to commence next year in Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023, please contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au for more information. You may need to reapply for Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023 when the application period reopens. Your application for Semester 1/Trimester 1, 2023 will be assessed based on the program under which your last enrolments were completed.
       
    • Internal transfer offers for Semester 1, 2023 and Trimester 1, 2023 are not deferrable. Each student’s circumstances may vary, so if you do not wish to accept this offer or are unable to accept this offer, you may contact International Admissions through start@adelaide.edu.au. On the other hand, if you accept, but will be unable to commence in the specified intake, please contact International Admissions at start@adelaide.edu.aufor more advice. As long as you are still a current student, you may need to reapply for Semester 2, 2023 or Trimester 3, 2023 when that application period opens. Your application for Semester 2/Trimester 3, 2023 will be assessed based on the program under which your last enrolments were completed in Semester 1, 2023, Winter 2023, Trimester 1, 2023, or Trimester 2, 2023. If you no longer have any enrolments, please apply via SATAC only.
       
    • Please note that if your last enrolments were in 2020, and you wish to continue your studies in 2023 you may be required to meet English language proficiency by submitting an updated academic IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE. Please do not lodge any internal transfer applications. Please contact start@adelaide.edu.au for more information.

Eligible for internal transfer

You will be able to use this form if you:

  • Are an international student; and
  • Are currently enrolled and must have commenced your academic program at the University of Adelaide; and
  • ARE FINISHING CURRENT ENROLMENTS: You are in your last study period now and will be finishing at the end of Semester 2, 2022 and/or Trimester 3, 2022 and/or Summer School 2023 (if applying to transfer to a Semester 1, 2023 intake) OR will be finishing at the end of Semester 2, 2022 and/or Trimester 3, 2023 (if applying to transfer to a Trimester 1, 2023 intake); and
  • ARE APPLYING FOR: You are applying to transfer programs into Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023; and
  • ARE COMMENCING: Will commence the new program in Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023 only.

And you would like to:

1)  Change into a different program

  • undergraduate program to another undergraduate program,
  • postgraduate program to another postgraduate program

2)  Commence a new program

If you are completing your current degree at the end of Semester 2, 2022, or Trimester 3, 2022, or Summer School 2023, and wish to study a new program and commence in Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023 intakes only. Applications for future intakes will need to be lodged later in the year.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are applying for Quota Based Programs, some programs may have a different application period. Please contact the Faculty for advice.

Applications for future intakes must be lodged through SATAC.

Students who are enrolled but wish to take a gap in studies are advised not apply for internal transfer at this stage.

Please note that applying for leave of studies or dropping your enrolments may affect your eligiblity to apply for a change of program as an “internal transfer student”.

Not eligible for internal transfer

  • New students who have not yet commenced any academic studies as of academic intakes in 2020; and academic intakes in 2021 (including offshore students who had to defer due to COVID19 travel restrictions)

    If you wish to change your preference, your overseas qualifications and English language proficiency will need to be reassessed for entry into your new choice of program.

  • Students who are currently un-enrolled, or have taken a leave of absence, or have a gap in studies

    Students who are currently un-enrolled, or have taken a leave of absence, or have a gap in studies must not apply for internal transfer.

    • You must return to your current program when you recommence your studies.
    • Alternately, if you wish to change your programs while you are on leave from studies, please lodge an application via SATAC.
    • If your leave from studies is due to the COVID19-related travel ban and you had previously notified us, please contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au

  • Undergraduate students who wish to apply for their postgraduate programs; or students completing their current degrees and applying for their next degree

    • You must be in your last study period and completing your last semester/trimester of studies in your current program in Semester 2, 2022, or Trimester 3, 2022, or last Summer School, to be eligible to apply for internal transfer into a postgraduate program for Semester 1, 2023 or Trimester 1, 2023.
    • If you are not yet in your last study period, and are not yet completing your current undergraduate program within this application period, please do not lodge your application at this time.
  • Programs with quotas and/or special application requirements

    To apply for transfer into any of the following degrees, a new SATAC application will be required for your internal transfer. Please visit the Knowledge Base for more information about internal transfers and additional entry requirements for these degrees. You may also contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au.

  • Onshore programs

    At this time there is a requirement for students in these programs to attend in person. As such, any internal transfer offer will made on the provision you will be able to be onshore in Adelaide, and attending face-to-face classes at the university on the first day of classes. Should this change, updates will be posted. 

    • Bachelor of Economics (Advanced)
    • Bachelor of Economics (Honours)
    •  Bachelor of Music Theatre
    • Many programs under the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences require onshore attendance, and/or may be quota programs and thus require applications via SATAC only. Please contact the Faculty for more information.
    • There may be programs not listed which require students to be onshore. If the programs you are applying for are not listed here, please contact International Admissions Services at start@adelaide.edu.au for more updates.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) suite of programs

    The following programs are not applicable via internal transfers.

    • Graduate Certificate in Business Administration
    • Graduate Diploma in Business Administration
    • Adelaide Master of Business Administration
  • Changing majors or specialisations

    For students who want to change streams/majors/specialisations, please do not lodge any application via internal transfer.

  • PEP change of program

    If you are currently enrolled in (or completing) a PEP, please use the PEP Change of Program form. For further information please contact the English Language Centre. Students who wish to change their Award Program must contact the English Language Centre (ELC) or email elc@adelaide.edu.au within the deadline provided by the ELC.

  • Pathway students – Undergraduates

    Students currently enrolled in pathway programs must contact their provider directly to request a change of program, either for their pathway studies or their bachelor degree award program.

  • Pathway students – Postgraduates/Pre-Master’s program

    If you are currently enrolled in a Pre-Master’s program with the University of Adelaide College, and wish to change your program, please contact the College Student Services at collegeservices@adelaide.edu.au in the first instance.
     
    If the Pre-Master’s program you are enrolled in does not articulate into the program you wish to transfer into, you may contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au.

  • Australia Awards Scholarship recipients

    Recipients of this scholarship must contact Niranjala Seimon at niranjala.seimon@adelaide.edu.au.

  • Adelaide Refugee & Humanitarian Scholarship recipients

    Recipients of this scholarship may apply for internal transfer, but please contact Terri Finn, Senior Education and Welfare Officer at Student Care in the first instance. You may contact her at 8313 5430, or email terri.finn@adelaide.edu.au to discuss. 

    Supporting documents and approval to transfer your scholarship into the new program is required.

Who can assist me with my applications?

  • You may use a University representative (agent) to assist with your ITR application.
  • Using a University representative (agent) is optional. If you choose to apply without an agent, this will not affect the progress or outcome of your application. All applications are equally processed, and are assessed against the program requirements, and on your academic qualifications.
  • If you change your minds after you have lodged your application, and now wish to add/change/remove an agent, you will need to lodge a new application. In your new application, you may update this to add, change, or remove your agent selection.
  • New applications with agent updates (add or change agents) must be lodged within the application period only. Late changes, and Agent Nomination Forms, will not be accepted.
  • If you wish to remove an agent after the application period closes, you may still do so. Please contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au to update us and advise us of the reasons for your change of mind, so that we can review your request.
  • If you choose to apply without an agent, and need assistance with your internal transfer application, we are more than happy to help you at any stage. We can help you from the start of your application, through to resolving your queries, and assist you with your offer acceptances. You may contact the Faculty for advice regarding your program selection, and you may contact us at start@adelaide.edu.au for all other queries.

After you have lodged your application

If you have lodged an internal transfer application and have now changed your mind and no longer wish to change programs, please email International Admissions at start@adelaide.edu.au, and advise that you wish to withdraw your application.

Scholarships

1) For students applying from an undergraduate program to another undergraduate program, or from a postgraduate program to another postgraduate program: 
If you have been awarded an international scholarship* for your current program, it will continue to be applied to your new program so long as you are not transferring into an excluded degree. Please see the international scholarship website for more information.

2) For students completing their current degrees, and applying for a new degree:
You may be eligible for the 2021-2025 University of Adelaide Alumni Scholarship (International). This scholarship will be automatically awarded to eligible students.

3) Please be aware that if you have received a 2020 Alumni Scholarship to commence your studies in 2020, and you were unable to commence your studies for any reason, you may be subject to eligibility requirements if commencing your studies in 2021. Please visit the Alumni Scholarships (International) 2021-2025 for more information.

*Some exceptions may apply. Please check the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship you hold.
*If you hold an Adelaide International Undergraduate Scholarship (AIUS), and your internal transfer request is successful, please contact start@adelaide.edu.au prior to accepting your offer, to confirm if this scholarship will continue to be applied to your new program.
